This weekend: instead of Easter egg hunts and baby chicks on homesteads I spent most of my time in the hospital with my Father. His wound turned out to be MRSA and Friday afternoon Phil took over kid-duty so I could do the bossy daughter in the hospital thang. It's my Dads fault he was in there; the man doesn't eat right, doesn't take care of his body, drank scotch for 20 years, smokes two packs a day and let a giant deep wound on his foot go for a MONTH. With a little Thieves, some healing salve and clean bandages at the onset of the cut I do believe he could have avoided all this, but thus is life with my Father and he needed days of IV antibiotics. I kept him company, brought him sandwiches, and tried to flag down nurses. FLAG being the key word here; I spent four hours with my Father and no one came in to check on him..no doctor, no nurse..for FOUR hours. And the ward was quite empty (which isn't common..) the doctors were supposed to run tests but they got pushed aside and not down at all, and some of the people I spoke to were so rude. Blew me off. Another pushy daughter of a patient so lets avoid her, right?
He's home though, and so life goes on.
:Paige started a new farm homeschool class and she's pretty excited about it. It's two hours a week and she basically gets to be a little farmhand on a fairly large, local homestead. In April she's going to be starting a 4-H HORSE group in the evenings, in addition to her other daytime homeschool 4-H group.
:We have been dying eggs, making playsilks, drawing, meltin' beeswax, making our own bouncy balls, starting seeds indoors and reading new books from this homeschooling series we are in love with.
:Downloading The Artful Parents spring PDF book and couldn't be more happy with it. If you can follow the link because its filled with so much inspiration for the season.
:This week we will be visitng a pony that lives on the farm down the road. Paige is smitten with him and we go and feed him carrots once or twice a week when the weather is nice. On the weekends the farm is a madhouse of city-people coming to get their dirt and fresh air fill, but on the weekdays it's nice and quiet for us.
:This week I'm clearing out our entire pantry. Gulp. I'm really wanting to have a Whole Foods based diet and there's definately some Cookies lurking in there that need to go..I'm not throwing the food out, but giving it to my Dad and Mum who have NO INTEREST in changing their diets. My goal is to get our dairy from the raw milk guy, our meat from the grass fed buter, our produce from the CSA and our own garden, and anything else from small shops online or in "real life"
...time to go but more later! I need to go watch a stuffed alligator give birth to a zebra.
